Cruise liners

  F.A.Q.

Is cruising affordable and a good vacation value? There are cruises to suit every budget, from the budget to the most luxurious. Even more important, a cruise offers the best travel value for your money. Your fare includes all meals, your cabin, onboard daytime activities, night time parties and entertainment. So for once, you'll know what your vacation will end up costing you before you go. (Your only extra expenses will be drinks, gratuities, optional shore excursions, and personal services such as massage or hairstyling.) You'll be amazed at the value.

Are all ships and cruises fairly similar?Cruise ships can range from under 200 feet to over 1,000 feet. You can sail with anywhere from fewer than 100 fellow passengers to over 2,600. Experience atmospheres ranging from casual to formal, classically simple to ultra-deluxe. You can even choose between traditional propeller-driven craft, sail-assisted cruise ships, or even a paddle-wheel river boat.

Can we stay in touch with the outside?Quite easily. Most ships have a daily newsletter with news, headlines, selected stock quotes and sports scores. Staterooms on all of today's modern cruise ships are equipped with satellite televisions and in some cases in-cabin internet connections. While most ships now have telephones in passenger cabins, you can also call someone on shore through the ship's radio operator while at sea. And, you can make phone calls from most ports. In addition, many ships have fax capabilities and newer ships offer Internet access and e-mail capabilities to passengers.

Can I use my hair dryer or shaver? Most ships have 110-volt outlets in the staterooms. Many ships even feature hair dryers in your cabin.

What items are not allowed onboard the cruise ship?Weapons, illegal drugs, and other items that could interfere with the safe operation of the ship or the safe and secure environment of our guests and crew are prohibited.   The following are examples of items that are not allowed onboard.  These and other similar items will be confiscated upon being found.

Is there internet on board?Wireless Internet Access (Wi-Fi)

There will be six designated *'Hot Spots', which vary from ship to ship.To use our Wi-Fi access, you'll need: laptop with Windows operating system

The Internet Cafe/WorkstationThese stations provide access to e-mail and the Internet, plus direct connections to favourite websites for stock market, sports and entertainment updates. You can also send virtual postcards while at sea, and in ports-of-call worldwide. If you don't have an e-mail account, you can also establish one on board

Do cruise lines welcome families with kids?.Without question. cruising is not only a fabulous, unforgettable vacation full of cool, high adventure activities for kids, it's also an unbelievable educational opportunity. If your children are active and love adventure, they will enjoy a cruise vacation.

Most Resort/Contemporary and Premium Cruise Lines cater to and provide facilities and services for families with children of all ages including toddlers, youth, twins and teens. This includes expansive kids programming, kids facilities, kids menus and even special Shore Excursions and activities for the kids.

Most cruise lines have cabins that can accommodate three, four, or five passengers in one cabin. This means that children can often travel at substantially reduced rates when they share a cabin with their parents, making it more affordable to take the whole family on a cruise.

Can singles have fun on a cruise?Cruising is ideal for people travelling alone, because it's so easy to meet other people. In fact, most ships have parties just for singles early on, so you can start to be involved right away. Most ships also have single cabins as well as single rates for double staterooms. In many cases, a cruise line will even find you a roommate to share a double if you ask them.

Is cruising right for honeymooners?Without a doubt. Cruising offers an atmosphere that's just right for romance...cozy dinners for two, strolling on deck at sunset, dancing the night away (even under the stars) and so much more to remember forever. Most lines provide special services from Sunday or Monday departures to welcome champagne and breakfast in bed. (And, speaking of beds, most ships have them in double, queen, or king sizes!) Also, some ships offer special programs for performing a marriage ceremony or renewing your marriage vows in port.

How old do you have to be to take a cruise?Guests under the age of 21 must be accompanied by a parent, grandparent or guardian 25 years of age or older in the same stateroom. In other words, two 21 year olds can travel together, but a 22 year old and a 20 year old cannot cruise even if they turn 21 during the cruise. Cruise Lines will make exceptions for young adults who are married and who bring a marriage certificate to prove it

What's the minimum age to take a cruise? Can I bring an infant? Most cruise lines require that infants be at least 16 weeks old to travel and others require young kids to be even older for longer and exotic itineraries. Since each cruise line has different minimum age requirements, it is always best to book your cruise with a live cruise agent, instead of online, if you are travelling with infant.

Are pregnant women allowed to cruise?Women who will be 24 weeks pregnant during the cruise will be prohibited from taking a cruise. Please make sure that you have your doctor's permission to travel even if you are less than 6 months pregnant. If you are pregnant, do not book online. Instead, call and speak with a Live Cruise Specialist to discuss your travel options and requirements.

Can I book a wheelchair accessible cabin online?Cruise ships have a limited number of wheelchair accessible staterooms on each sailing. Since there is no way to specifically select a particular, wheelchair stateroom online, we highly recommend that you call and speak with a Cruise Specialist. In addition to helping you find the best stateroom, your Cruise Specialist will help you with regards to other special needs you may have while travelling.

What do I do if my documents are incorrect? Please check the details of your booking acknowledgement with care, to ensure that all details of your confirmed holiday are as required. It is important to note your booking reference number from this documentation, to quote whenever you contact us. Please quote your lead passenger name and departure date also

Passport, visa and vaccination requirements We would strongly recommend visiting the Foreign and Commonwealth Office web site for all the latest travel, health and VISA information if you are travelling to a destination outside the EU. It is especially important to check in plenty of time before your holiday, if you are visiting a country for which inoculations are recommended or required. Please be aware that it is your responsibility to obtain visas and to make sure you have a passport with at least 6 months validity on it.
